Julie Cho and her family moved to the United States from South Korea when she was 16 years old.
She grew up outside Cleveland, OH and attended high school there. As a teenager, she did not know a word of English, did not have anyone who could understand her, and was a complete stranger. To help adjust – she learned English by reading the dictionary every day and got involved as much as she could in school.
How did it work out for her?
Julie graduated near the top of her class, and after attending undergrad in Ohio, she moved to Chicago to attend graduate school at The University of Chicago where she earned a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Business Administration.
After graduation, Julie started her career in healthcare management as she was a Division Manager for the Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. After working for the University of Phoenix and as a Senior Financial Analyst for Walgreens, she started her own healthcare consulting business in 2012 called, Locke Consulting Group. Her responsibilities include managing day-to-day business operations and helping improve resources for both healthcare staff and the patients.
Every role she has held proves she can problem solve and get both management and staff to work together to achieve a common goal. She looks forward to her next challenge of running as State Representative, and you can count on her to use the same drive and communication skills to get positive results.
Today, Julie lives in Wilmette with her husband, Brian and three children, Brianna, Priscilla, and John. She stays involved in her community by volunteering with her church, and is an officer for the Korean American Association of Chicago.
As a survivor of cancer, Julie counts her blessings every day. She knows what it’s like to have to navigate through tough situations, and she will use that experience to address constituent needs with a sense of urgency. Still, if you ask her, there’s nothing more challenging than getting three kids ready for school in the morning.
